It was a respectful return for a fallen Maine marine.

Devon Strout was killed in a Virginia car crash over the weekend.

Tuesday night, hundreds of people lined up from Massachusetts to central Maine to salute a fallen hero, welcoming home a soldier from Maine one final time.

20-year-old Devon Strout's body made its way from Virginia to Milo Tuesday night.

Strout was killed in a car crash in Virginia on Saturday.

Police say the car he was in left the roadway, striking a tree and ejecting him.

The marine was stationed in Quantico, working as a recruiter.

Friends say Strout grew up in Milo, and even after joining the marines, he never lost touch of his roots.

From high school friends to mere acquaintances, hundreds from all over the state are now paying tribute to a young man who they say was the ideal marine.

Thursday afternoon, the community members will hold a vigil at Penquis Valley High School.
