Michael Chalekson, 36, of Manhattan Beach, California, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away Monday morning, April 4, 2016. Michael was born in Inglewood, California on September 21, 1979, the son of Ernest and LaRue. He is survived by his mother, LaRue; his brother, John; his uncle, George Chalekson; his aunt, Pauline Furkioti; and cousins, Charles Chalekson, Andrea Chalekson, Dean Furkioti, and Kathy Fink. His father passed away in 2014. Michael grew up in Manhattan Beach and attended local schools: Grand View Elementary, Manhattan Beach Intermediate, and Mira Costa High School. He obtained his Buiness degree from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. An avid outdoorsman who grew up going on camping trips with his father, mother, brother, and friends, Michael enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and backpacking. He also grew up participating in sports - soccer, basketball, and surfing - and as an adult, was an enthusiastic sports fan, especially of his Cal Bears. An exceptionally nice person, loved by all, Michael was close to friends from all walks of his life---his childhood, his years at college, and his work at Houston Casualty Company. His loss will be deeply felt by those lucky enough to have known him.
Church service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:00am at Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 722 Knob HIll Avenue, Redondo Beach, California, 90277. PH: (310) 540-2434.
