I started writing my own obituary when I determined I didn't want it to say "battle with cancer" anywhere in it. Generally speaking, we're born, we have experiences, and then we die. Whether or not those experiences are positive is largely a personal decision. I am very grateful for the experiences I've had.

I was born in Provo, UT to Michael and Susan (Hatch) Lauritzen on January 27, 1972. I had a great childhood living near Air Force bases in the US and Germany with my younger siblings Jeannette (Knight), Cindy (Bird), Tammy (Reavis), Ben, and Katie (Wright). After my mom died in 1999, Marlene became my second mom and a wonderful Grandma to my kids. I met my soul mate and eternal best friend Therese (McIntier) in high school marching band in Alamogordo, NM. We were married on April 5, 1991 and a couple of times after that (ask Therese to explain).

When we were first married, we were stationed in Great Falls, MT where I served in the Air Force four years working on nuclear missile systems. We were young and it took us few years and some rules of engagement we set and followed during disagreements, before we really grew together. Now, Therese is my everything. Together we have five awesome kids. Alex, Elizabeth, Anne, Nick, and Mike. I've loved snowboarding, video games, cruises, hiking, and just hanging out with my family.

Since 1998, I've been fortunate to experience owning and operating my own company. Over the years, the people with whom I've been blessed to work have become my lifelong friends. Serving as city council member and mayor of Woodland Hills, UT since 2006 has truly been a joy. The amazing residents of Woodland Hills are special. I can't imagine that there's a better collection of people anywhere.


Steve passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by his sweetheart, Therese; children, Alex (Erica), Elizabeth, Anne, Nick, and Mike Lauritzen. He is also survived by his parents, Michael and Marlene; siblings, Cindy (MarDee) Bird, Ben (Elisa) Lauritzen, Tammy (Daren) Reavis, Katie (Spencer) Wright, and brother-in-law, Joe Knight. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan, and sister, Jeannette.

A visitation will be held Monday evening, April 10, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the LDS Chapel, located at 220 S. Woodland Hills Drive, Woodland Hills, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salem Stake Center Chapel, 470 E. Salem Canal Road, Salem, Utah with a visitation from 9:00-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
