The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified a man who was shot and killed in south Bakersfield early this month.

According to a news release, Robert Coddington, 38, of Bakersfield, was found mortally wounded May 1 on Sunshine Avenue, just south of Ming Avenue, not far from the Kern County Fairgrounds.

He was taken to Kern Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3 p.m. the following day.

After a postmortem examination the cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound, and the manner of death, homicide.
