A teenager was killed and another was injured in an early morning shooting Thursday in east Columbus.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. near the BP gas station at the corner of East Main Street and South James Road.

When officers arrived, they located an injured 17-year-old male. He was transported to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.

An hour later, Columbus Police say 16-year-old Marquelis Shaquan Barnes was located in the front yard of a nearby address. Barnes was found suffering multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

Investigators say the two victims were involved in an altercation with another group of males in the gas station parking lot when at least one person fired multiple shots at the two teens.

No suspect information was provided by police.
