Fort Wayne detectives spent the day canvassing the areas where two weekend shootings happened.

Two men were shot in what's believed to be unrelated incidents.

And now, investigators have another homicide on their hands.

Police say 20-year-old Spencer Smith was shot several times early Saturday morning outside the East Central Towers in the 900 block of East Washington Boulevard.

That's just east of downtown.

Someone called 911 saying shots had been fired, and when officers got there, they found Smith outside.

He died at the hospital.

His death is the 22nd homicide for the year, and the third in three months at the apartment complex.

A police department spokesman says it's impossible to predict where violence will happen.

"It's kinda like photographing Bigfoot. You can put your resources into force but what's to say Bigfoot's going to cross your path at that time? We certainly respond to trends, and if we have good information that we can respond to then we work with that good information," Officer Michael Joyner says.

Just a few hours earlier, police had been called to the 4300 block of Gaywood on the city's southeast side.

Witnesses told officers they'd heard shots, and had seen a man making his way west.

Police found him four blocks away at Senate and South Park.

He was in critical condition at the hospital but has been upgraded to serious.
