Police are investigating after an Indianapolis man was fatally shot Friday night.

Derris Mack, 31, was shot near the 900 block of Pershing Avenue just before 8 p.m. Friday, according to a release distributed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. He was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition with at least one gunshot wound.

He died later at the hospital.

IMPD homicide detectives are following up on several leads, according to the release, but they have not publicly released information regarding possible suspects or a motive for the shooting. However, they don't believe it to be a random act of violence.

The Marion County Coroner's office will determine a cause of death after an autopsy.
