More than £1,700 has been raised in less than 19-hours to pay for the funeral of an Oban man who died suddenly last weekend.

The campaign was started by Allan Strang after his friend Joe Devaney passed away, aged just 40.

Mr Strang said: 'I started it to respect a great, lovely big guy who would do anything to help anyone.

'He knew a lot of people. He had a big circle of friends.

'I met Joe in Oban when he first arrived about 15 or so years ago and he was a great guy to get on with.

'He wouldn't harm a fly. He loved his outdoors and his love for dogs was more than his love for human beings.'

So far 80 people have donated to help cover the costs of the service, raising a total of £1,740 of the £2,500 target.
