A teenager from Lake Oswego has died from complications after falling ill with pneumonia.


Early Saturday morning, Nina Heidgerken's family posted online that she had passed away peacefully.

On Tuesday, March 27, Heidgerken was brought to Emanuel Hospital's Emergency Room in Portland. She had been sick with pneumonia, but was complaining of severe stomach pain and difficulty breathing, according to a family statement. She was then rushed to the ICU and the Trauma Unit—her organs failing.

She was transferred to Oregon State Health and Science University on March 29.

Despite best efforts to save her, 18-year-old Heidgerken lost her life.

Heidgerken was a student at Lakeridge High School and an active member of the performing arts.

"She was such a ball of optimism, energy, positivity and creativity," said Andrew Ballnik, Nina's drama teacher.
