Officers from the Tucson Police Department Operations Division South responded to a body found call just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27 near East Alvord Road and South Jeanette Boulevard.

According to a TPD release officers arrived at the scene and found an adult male, identified as 49-year-old Lester Kirkendall on the side of the road with obvious signs of gunshot trauma.

Tucson Fire Department crews arrived to assist with medical treatment, but Kirkendall was pronounced dead at the scene.

After speaking with witnesses at the scene, TPD detectives determined that the homicide did not occur where the victim was found. According to TPD, a witness reported seeing a person pull a body out of an older model sedan and then leave the area in the same vehicle.
