Pauline Caryl Hubbell entered into eternal life on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, after a long battle of stroke and dementia. Neal, her husband of 55 years, was by her side. Pauline was born on November 18, 1941, to Emil and Caryl (Olson) Johnson in Superior, WI. She was primarily raised by her aunt and uncle, Lempi and Gabriel Maki. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1960. Upon graduation, Pauline moved to Fresno, CA, and where she met Neal Hubbell. They were married on March 15, 1963, and began building a home together, raised their two children, and then eventually moved to Canyon Lake, TX. While living In Fresno, Pauline worked for Gottschalk's Department Store as a key punch operator, which gave her the experience needed to land a job with Pacific Gas & Electric Company, where she worked in various positions for 34 years, until her retirement. Pauline was passionate about building up young people and her peers. She gave countless volunteer hours to the Clovis Jets Swim Team, the Clovis West Aquatics program, and the Clovis Swim Team, which lead to her involvement with USA Swimming and becoming an US Swimming National Official. Her ultimate achievement was being selected to be an official at the US Olympic Trials and traveling with the United States Olympic Team to the World Championships in Majorca, Spain. Once retired, the couple moved to Canyon Lake, TX where Pauline continued her work and travels with USA Swimming and also became involved with the Landa Park Dolphins and most importantly helped to raise her two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Erkkila; her father, Emil Johnson; and her mother, Caryl (Olson), who is unknown if dead or alive. Pauline is survived by her husband, Neal, of Canyon Lake, TX; son, Bryce Hubbell and wife Tonie Aizon of Fresno, CA; daughter, Lisa Hubbell-Walzem of New Braunfels, TX; and three grandchildren, Austin Hubbell and wife Meredith of Fresno, CA, and Jordan and Taylor Walzem of New Braunfels, TX. A Memorial Service will be held at the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in Canyon Lake (Sattler), TX, on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. Pauline's ashes are to be spread at her favorite places by her favorite people at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to any local high school swim team or organization that builds up and supports young people.
