A Lorain man police say is responsible for the first homicide of the year in the city was arraigned Wednesday on a murder charge.

Marlon Johnson, 42, was arraigned in Lorain Municipal Court via video link in connection with the murder of Todd Dais, 45, according to Lorain police. Police say they believe Dais was a lifelong Lorain resident.

According to Lorain Police Sgt. Buddy Sivert, Dais was shot multiple times Monday morning at 807 W. 22nd St.

Police received reports of shots fired at 5:38 a.m. at the address and, when officers arrived, they saw several people running from the home, a previous news release said. Police said they found a man dead in the basement.

Sivert said Dais did not live at the 22nd Street house.

Johnson was arrested about 11 a.m. Tuesday by U.S. Marshals Service after police received tips and gathered information on his whereabouts, police said.

According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Johnson is on parole after being released from prison in February. He served about nine years for several crimes committed in both Medina and Lorain counties, including robbery, aggravated burglary, abduction, intimidation and domestic violence.

Police are asking anyone with information on Dais' death to call the Lorain Police Department at (440) 204-2100.
