A Laurens man on trial for the murder of his parents pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder Friday morning in Otsego County Court, according to Otsego County District Attorney John Muehl.

Kevin Perry, 23, will serve two consecutive 25-years-to-life sentences. Perry was offered the deal from Muehl's office in March.

In January, Perry was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in February.

Perry was arrested in December of 2017 and charged with murdering his parents Solveig Perry, 52, and Timothy A. Perry, 59, who died from shotgun wounds in their home at 400 New Road in Laurens. Perry also lived at the residence, police said.

Rebecca Perry — the couple's daughter and defendant's sister — called 911 after coming home to find her parents dead and Kevin not on the premises. According to testimony provided by her in January, when she had come home from work earlier, her brother had been drinking.

Perry fled the scene in his father's pickup truck and crashed the truck on Interstate 88 near Exit 23 in Schoharie County trying to evade police. Multiple weapons were found in the truck.

Muehl said that Perry's plea was unexpected.

"I expected him to plead at some point but I did not expect him to plead today," Muehl told The Daily Star on Friday.

Perry will be sentenced on Oct. 19 and will be transferred to a state prison, according to Muehl.

Judge Brian Burns presided over the case. Perry was represented by public defendant Bruce Maxson.
