Brevard County sheriff's investigators are working to determine the cause of death for a 19-year-old man whose body was pulled from the Indian River on Monday – the second body to be pulled from a waterway in less than a month.
The partially-clothed remains were first spotted floating in the choppy waters of the Indian River near Cocoa. A boater passing by the area contacted authorities to report the find.
Investigators found information on the body and identified the man as Zachary Stickle of Cocoa. There were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play, deputies reported.
An autopsy was planned to be conducted Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death. No information on the autopsy was available Tuesday afternoon.
It was the second body to be pulled from a Brevard waterway in less than a month. On Sept. 25, Brevard County deputies retrieved the remains of a 23-year-old West Melbourne man from the Banana River, just off of the Pineda Causeway. Authorities do not believe the cases are related.
In the September case, a boater called 911 after spotting what he thought was a body in the water. Authorities identified the man as John Romer.
A cause of death has not been released in that case.
