The still missing victim in last Friday's landslide at Fort Funston has been identified as 22-year-old Kyra Sunshine Scarlet of Oakley.
Scarlet was with her dog and a friend and they were apparently trying to climb up a sand cliff at the dog-friendly beach when a portion of that cliff gave way. The friend and the dog were partially buried and escaped unharmed, but Scarlet was buried and remains missing.
The search for Scarlet's remains resumed Thursday after being called off during this week's storm.
Search efforts have been hampered by high tides, and rescuers have said they believe Scarlet's body may have been washed out to sea as early as last Saturday, when tides washed away much of the dirt mound that was formed by the landslide.
As CBS SF reports, Scarlet's family issued a statement saying, "Kyra Sunshine was a beautiful, sweet, amazing woman. She died in one of her favorite places after hiking with her sweet dog Iris and her dear friend. The family's faith allows for them to be at peace knowing that Kyra Sunshine is in a better place and that they will be reunited in the future."
Scarlet was originally from Utah.
A GoFundMe account has been set up in her name, with the family saying, "These funds will support the family with all related expenses and provide peace of mind during this tender time."
