Friends and family are still looking for answers after 35-year-old Marshall Kolby Larks was found dead in the wooded area off Spanish Town Road Sunday morning in what the family believes is a deadly carjacking.

"My son would have given him the truck and walked home. He didn't have to kill him," his mother Carolyn Larks said.

While she delivered a message to the person who hurt her son, there is still no suspect information. The Baton Rouge Police Department is continuing to investigate.

People all across Baton Rouge are mourning his loss. Friends and family tell us Larks made a positive impact on everyone he met.

"He was a young man, but he had a heart of gold. My baby had a heart of gold," Carolyn Larks said.

Larks was a well known gospel singer in Baton Rouge. He had been singing at Little Rising Sun Baptist Church since he was 5-years-old.

"It's just hard. I haven't been feeling good. I've been sick ever since this happened," interim pastor Rev. Emma Woods said.

Friends and family tell us Larks was always asking elderly members of the church if they needed a ride, shopped for them and ran any other errands to make their day easier.

Larks also made his presence known through his fashion, often referred to by the nickname "Hollywood."

"He had glitter suits and shoes. When you saw him, you thought about Hollywood," friend Keon Preston said.

Preston is also the founder of Stop the Violence Baton Rouge. He tells us word of Lark's death was a hard pill to swallow because Lark wouldn't hurt a fly. He went on to add that Larks lit up a room with his positive personality.

"He was the life of the party. He loved to laugh. He loved to smile and he had a beautiful voice. He could sing like nobody else," Preston said.

Lark's funeral is Friday at Mount Pilgrim (9700 Scenic Hwy). Visitation is from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The service starts at 11 a.m.
