A two-car wreck west of Shannon claimed the life of one person Sunday afternoon.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to County Road 300 shortly after 12 p.m. May 19 for a two-car accident. Deputies determined that one car was headed east and the other west. One of the vehicles crossed over into the oncoming lane and the vehicles struck head-on.
The unrestrained driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead from multiple trauma on the scene. Lee County Coroner identified the victim as Jessica Wiggs, 26, of Columbus, There were three children under the age of 10 in the same car. Two of those children were airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The other child was taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. There is no word on their condition.
The accident is under investigation.
