North Richland Hills woman dies in Loop 820 crash

A 20-year-old student died after her car collided with an 18-wheeler on Northeast Loop 820 in Fort Worth.

The Tarrant County medical examiner's office identified the driver as Leah Lombard of North Richland Hills.

A student at Assessment Technologies Institute, Lombard was on her way to class Thursday evening, said her father, Tom Lombard.

Fort Worth police said she was heading east in the 1500 block of Loop 820 about 5:20 p.m. when she encountered traffic and had to stop quickly in her white Buick sedan.

She lost control of her car and collided with an 18-wheeler before crashing into a barrier, police said. The 18-wheeler then broke through the barrier, coming to a stop in the westbound lanes.
