A man who was shot late Thursday afternoon in east Fort Worth has died, and another man who was arrested in the case was being held Friday on unrelated warrants.

Rickey Davis, 22, of Fort Worth was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m. Friday in the intensive care unit of John Peter Smith Hospital, the Tarrant County medical examiner reported.

Officers were called to a report of a shooting at the J.A. Cavile apartments, an east Fort Worth public housing complex, at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a police report.

When they arrived, they found Davis gravely wounded nearby in the 5000 block of Avenue G. He had a gunshot wound to the head and was "unresponsive," the report stated.

Nearly an hour later, officers were called to a report of a wounded man in the 3700 block of Avenue N, the police reported Thursday.

The man was believed to be "the alleged actor in the original shooting," according to information from Capt. Charles Ramirez, a police spokesman. Marcus Massington, 22, was arrested, according to police.

Massington was taken to JPS Thursday for treatment of his wounds. He was booked into the Mansfield Jail Friday at 10:16 a.m., records show.

Massington is being held on Tarrant County warrants for delivery/manufacturing of a controlled substance and theft between $50 and $500, according to police and jail records.

Charges related to the shooting had not been filed late Friday evening.
