The eldest son of Kendall and Karen Goodall passed away Monday after battling acute lymphocytic leukemia for almost three years.

Kollin Lane Goodall, 17, died in his St. Augustine home surrounded by his mother, five brothers and sisters, and many other extended family members.

His father, Kendall Goodall, was 43 years old when he died in 2008 after a two-year struggle with amotrophic lateral sclerosis, a strain of leukemia also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Shortly after his father died, Kollin needed a bone marrow transplant. His 15-year-old sister, Kaley, was the perfect match, Record archives show. But at the tail end of his recovery schedule, Kollin found out that his leukemia was terminal.

Kollin was in his last year of high school, where he studied from home and was enrolled in classes at St. Johns River Community College. He received an honorary associate arts degree. Before being homeschooled, he was a student at Mill Creek Baptist Christian Academy.

Family members found out about Kollin's diagnosis less than a week after a group of volunteer construction workers finished a $100,000 addition to the Goodall family's home on State Road 16 in March 2008, Record archives show.

Their three-bedroom, two-bathroom home was transformed into a much more accommodating five-bedroom, three-bathroom house.

Despite troubles with his illness, Kollin was known for his sense of humor and his love for practical jokes, his obituary said. He was also known as an iPhone apps and texting whiz, as well as an avid geo catcher. He was also a dedicated Gators' fan, according to his Myspace.

"I'm battling cancer for a second time. Things for me are different right now. Through the years out of all my friends, I've weeded out the bad ones and kept the good, but I'm still figuring this out," Kollin said on his Myspace page.

During his time at MCBCA, he played on the basketball and football teams. He was also very active in his church youth group, where he spent the most time with his friends.

Kollin was a dedicated Boy Scout since the age of 6. He achieved the Brotherhood Honor in the Order of the Arrow, 24 Merit Badges and was just one short for the highest rank in scouting, the Eagle Scout.

Kollin's funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mill Creek Baptist Church followed by interment in Craig Memorial Park Cemetery.
